Is a certain color or "RAW vs. polished" best?

The pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory component of Baltic Amber is the succinic acid.  If you would like to get the most effective necklace, you can choose one that contains more succinic acid.  Generally speaking, the lighter the color, the more succinic acid.

RAW Baltic amber is unprocessed, untreated amber that has come directly from the Baltic Sea.  It is the true form of amber and is also known to contain the most succinic acid.  In fact, some people strongly believe "RAW vs. Polished" is more important than color choice.  RAW Baltic amber is the true form of amber, uses less heat when processed, and contains more succinic acid, which is the healing benefits of amber.

The best of both worlds? You can go for the gold: RAW and light. Amber by Amanda carries RAW yellow-toned selections both for babies and adults.  We also have a variety of RAW color selections, as well as light polished ones. The rest is simply personal preference for color choice and look. All amber polished colors work the same as the raw or light polished amber--they all contain the same succinic acid, just different amounts of it.

If you don't care for the look of RAW, you can make your RAW amber look polished by gently rubbing it with a hint of organic olive oil and water, using a soft fleece-like cloth. This will not effect the amber's healing, just makes the colors more vibrant and gives that polished shine to the RAW.

Which color will heal MY pain?

It's not the color, it's the succinic acid that heals.  Everyone's body is different and has different areas in need.  Just like the succinic acid in the trees heal the trees of any imbalances they contain throughout their lifetime, amber will do the same for us.  The succinic acid is absorbed through our skin, travels our blood stream, and balances anything that needs balancing within ourselves.  Remember, no two trees are the same, and no two people are the same.  Amber will have different effects on different people.  See the notes about choosing the most effective amber and receiving the most benefits out of your amber.

So many choices.  How do I choose?

The lightest RAW colors contain the most succinic acid, which is the healing property of the amber.  Yellow amber is the most pure form of amber nature produces; "Butter" (yellow) is the lightest color.  Next is Lemon, Honey, Green, Cognac, Cherry, and then Black Cherry.  There is only a 4-6% difference in the succinic acid from the lightest RAW amber color (RAW Butter) to the darkest Polished amber color (Polished Black Cherry, which is black).  Since the amber holds it's healing properties so well, there really isn't much of a noticable difference between the 4-6% in the acid from one color to the next. However, for healing, RAW and light is the way to go.  If not a light color, any RAW color will be the next best option. Polished varieties will do the same job, though they will take a few more minutes to get into your system.  As long as the amber is worn against the skin (under the clothes!), remains dry and free of chemicals, and not exposed to fire or extreme heat (oven, hair dryer, etc.), the flow of the succinic acid will be consistent with every amber option.

What is the right length?

Length is also a personal preference.  Standard size baby necklaces are about12.5 inches, and adult necklaces are generally 17.7 inches.  Each item is labeled with its approximate length.  You can easily measure to get a good visual of the fit. If you feel your amber necklace isn't quite the right size, contact me at support@amberbyamanda.com, and I will help guide you in shortening or stretching without compromising the look of your Amber by Amanda jewelry.

Amber is very delicate and is meant for wearing, not chewing.  Necklaces should be worn under the clothing and against the skin.  Not only does this help prevent babies from mouthing on the amber, it also allows the amber's succinic acid to be absorbed through the skin for the maximum healing benefit.

This chart gives an idea for how the sizes fit different babies of various ages and sizes:

What are the different shapes and sizes of the amber beads?

Amber by Amanda has a selection of different amber shapes to fit your style preferences.  The quality of the succinic acid within the amber is NOT effected by its shape.  Therefore, no matter the shape, the healing benefits remain the same within all of the different shapes of amber. The more amber you wear, the more benefits you receive from its succinic acid.

Please read my blog post about Amber Bead Size by clicking here. The following bead sizes are approximate, as no two amber beads are exactly the same size, nor are they perfectly shaped the same. The bead sizes also gradually decrease as they get closer to the screw clasp.

BAROQUE

Baroque-shaped Amber is smoothly rounded, almost sphere-like.  It is not perfect. There will never be any rough edges. No two Baroque pieces are perfectly identical in shape, size, or color.

Baby Baroque amber beads: ~ 6mm
Average 12.6in necklace weight: ~5g

Adult Baroque amber beads: ~ 8mm
Average 17.7in necklace weight: ~11g

Many companies tend to use the BABY 6mm amber beads with ADULT necklaces. Amber by Amanda uses 8mm amber for ADULT necklaces and bracelets. This 8mm amber is more appropriately proportioned to for adults.

Be sure to compare bead sizes with other companies. The smaller beads cost less for a reason. Larger beads = more healing benefits.

BEAN

Bean-shaped Amber is smoothly rounded to represent the elongated shape similar to a bean. Some beans are fuller than others, while some beans are more flat. They are not perfect. There will never be any rough edges. No two beans are identical.

ADULT Bean amber beads: ~ 17mm long
Average 17.7in necklace weight: ~8-8.5g

What kind of clasp is used?

All Amber by Amanda products that use clasps are fastened with plastic screw clasps, free of phthalates. I do NOT use pop clasps.

What is the difference between pop and screw clasps?
Screw clasps use thread to fix into position, where as pop clasps just click in. Screw clasps are considered stronger, as they do not undo so easily. Pop clasps will "pop" off at the slightest tug or bump, which will result in the item falling off at any given moment.  Since screw clasps are stronger, Amber by Amanda jewelry will not fall off when your little one observes his/her amber.  But don't worry, when given enough force, the cotton string is designed to break within the necklace (bracelet or anklet), which is why each piece of amber is individually knotted.

Necklaces do NOT go over the head.  You will need to locate the screw clasp in order to open the necklace for it to be secured around the neck. This seems to be a common confusion, as the color of the clasp is chosen to be well blended with the amber pattern in each unique design.

Should I get a necklace, bracelet, or anklet?

The succinic acid will be the strongest where it enters the skin.  Therefore, in order to receive the most benefits out of your amber, Baltic Amber should be worn against the area in need.  For example, if a baby is teething, then the baby will benefit most from a necklace worn near the neck/jaw area.  Bracelets will still help with teething, but it will take longer for the succinic acid to travel the blood stream to reach the area in need.  Bracelets and anklets are best for pain or discomfort in the wrist/hand or foot/ankle/lower leg area.  The more amber you wear, the more succinic acid you absorb.   Babies also get additional calming effects while being held by a person who is wearing amber.  For this reason, Amber by Amanda offers Baby & Me Sets at a discounted price.
